María Elaine Herrera, a 23-year-old girl with special physical conditions, set herself on fire on her birthday while attempting a viral TikTok challenge and is now in serious condition.
The young woman recorded a challenge on the famous TikTok platform and was trying to light some candles, but as she was already suffering from psychomotor difficulties and visual limitations, things went wrong and her clothes caught fire, according to the police report.
In this case there are two people detained, who would have incited the young woman to try the challenge that led her to set her body on fire.
The event occurred in the municipality of San Francisco, in the state of Zulia, and the police managed to find the whereabouts of the people who incited the victim.
The victim, who was celebrating her birthday, has a visual, musculoskeletal and neurological disability and was deceived by Enderver Jesús Villasmil Montiel (26), by a 16-year-old girl, both detained, and by Mary Elena Peña Villasmil (22), who She is a fugitive, the police explained.
"The vulnerable victim accepts and sets her clothing on fire, the fire getting out of control, causing second and third degree burns on 75% of her body," said a police spokesperson, who finally reported that the young woman is now confined in the ICU in a Maracaibo hospital.
According to the local press, the family is raising a collection to pay for the treatment costs and at the same time they called on young people not to participate in any TikTok challenge, to avoid any similar situation.
