A 70-year-old man was arrested after opening fire from the balcony of the 33rd floor of a skyscraper at the luxurious Four Seasons hotel in Atlanta, Georgia, during what was described as a "mental health crisis" on the afternoon of this Tuesday, the 29th.
According to the police report, the shooter, identified as J. Stevens Berger, lived at the hotel and had to be carried away on a stretcher with blood on his face after a tense hours-long confrontation with the police.
SWAT teams were deployed and guests were evacuated. Footage showed the shooter crossing the street after realizing he was being recorded. The nature of the "crisis" was unclear, although witnesses saw the man throwing furniture from his balcony.
The elderly man, wearing a Halloween mask, fired a rifle from his balcony, wounding a police officer and going through walls. During the confrontation, he threw his rifle into the street, and authorities reported that shots were exchanged.
He was hospitalized with blood on his face, although his condition and the nature of his injuries have not been clarified. Three weapons were found in his apartment: a shotgun, a rifle and a pistol.
