Police kill Air Force member in Florida home

The video captured by the officer's body camera begins with the agent arriving at the apartment complex and ends with Fortson wounded by a gunshot and the officer calling for help.

A video made public a week after the incident shows the officer knocking on the door and identifying himself twice as part of the sheriff's office, before Airman Roger Fortson opens it with a gun in his hand pointed downward and is shot.

Roger Fortson, 23, a member of the Air Force, was killed last Friday afternoon by an officer responding to a call about a domestic disturbance, according to the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office.

The video captured by the officer's body camera, about four minutes long, begins with the agent arriving at the apartment complex and ends with Fortson wounded by a gunshot and the officer asking for medical help.

Lawyers for Fortson's family pointed out that the young man had done nothing wrong before being shot and that the officer had gone to the wrong door.

However, at a later press conference, Sheriff Eric Aden stated that the deputy did not enter the wrong apartment, nor did he search Fortson's residence, and that he identified himself on two previous occasions.

The recording shows the police officer arriving at the scene and being directed by a woman to apartment 1401. The woman claims that someone had heard an argument there.

“Our officer responded to a report of a domestic disturbance and encountered an armed man. The officer shot the man, who later died as a result of his injuries,” said Sheriff Eric Aden.

The tragic incident has sparked outrage with many questioning the authorities' procedures in such situations. Investigations are ongoing to determine the sequence of events that led to the tragic outcome and whether proper procedures were followed.
