"The shadow of revenge: serial rapist who spread terror after his divorce has been arrested."
In the Russian city of Magnitogorsk, investigators have finally managed to catch a criminal who raped and robbed several women between 2016 and 2018. After his divorce, he hated women and began to take revenge on them.
He attacked lonely women in their apartments. He usually broke into them in the morning, when the victims were getting ready for work, but the police managed to catch the criminal thanks to genotyping.
The 51-year-old man waited until the woman opened the front door to go to work, then attacked her, forced her into the apartment, raped her and then robbed her. He took money, jewelry and then disappeared. The criminal was wearing a balaclava, so the police only had a sketch of him.
Biological traces collected at the scene of the violence did not reveal any matches with previously convicted men, and the criminal cases remained closed until the results of the next genetic test came in.
It turned out that the DNA test of the criminal matches the genetic data of a man from Magnitogorsk who did not pay child support. True, the genotype was close, but not completely identical, and it turned out that it was not he who committed the crimes, but his father.
When the police went to detain the suspect, he hid from law enforcement officers in the warehouse. Under the weight of evidence, he was forced to confess to the crimes. At the moment, there are seven known victims of the rapist's actions.
Until the trial, the accused in two criminal cases will be held in a pre-trial detention center. According to the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, violent acts of a sexual nature carry sentences ranging from 3 to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment; while theft is punishable by between forced labor and 15 years in prison.
