Former Bolivian president Evo Morales reported on Sunday, October 27, about an attack in which hooded men shot at his vehicle, hitting 14 times and wounding his driver.
Morales' entourage received a burst of gunfire from two unidentified vehicles on a highway in Chapare. Morales described the incident as an attempt by the Government to detain him and an attack on his life, while he faces an arrest warrant for failing to appear to testify in a case of alleged sexual abuse of minors.
Although he was unharmed, his driver suffered a superficial wound to the back of his head. "This is another failure of the Government. What Lucho Arce and David Choquehuanca have done with my life is very serious. It is not an attack against Evo, it is against the indigenous movement."
In images shared on social networks, Morales is seen making calls to report the situation while an alarmed woman is heard in the car. "They are shooting at us," Evo Morales repeated to his interlocutor.
