According to local reports, the incident occurred on Thursday, June 20, in Idukki district, Kerala, when the keeper hit the elephant with a cane, triggering the animal's violent reaction.
After the first attack, the elephant tramples the caretaker, who struggles to get to his feet before being fatally crushed.
The deceased, 62-year-old Balakrishnan, was subjected to a legal autopsy and his body was handed over to the authorities.
