A 94-year-old woman was sexually abused by her adopted son in the city of Barranquilla. The alleged aggressor, aged 56, allegedly threatened the elderly woman with causing her and her family's death if she revealed what had happened.

This alarming case came to light last Sunday in the Santa Helena neighbourhood, when the victim's granddaughter found them in a compromising situation inside the room.

After the disturbing discovery, the granddaughter notified the authorities, who proceeded to arrest the suspect and transfer the victim to a medical centre located in the Simón Bolívar neighbourhood.

To date, the police have not received a formal complaint that would allow them to initiate the corresponding legal proceedings.

The Atlantic Women's Network expressed its repudiation of this incident and asked the authorities to strengthen security measures to protect women in the region.

As more details about the incident emerged, various human rights organizations and women's advocates demanded a thorough investigation and urgent protective actions for the victim.

In response to this situation, the Atlantic Women's Network has called for a series of demonstrations in support of the affected woman and to demand justice.

"It is unacceptable that a person who should care for and protect her mother acts in such a way. This fact should serve as a call to action for all of us," said a spokesperson for the organization.
