A 15-year-old boy has died after undergoing surgery to remove gallstones by a “fake doctor” in Bihar, India.
The family accuses Ajit Kumar Puri, who they say used YouTube tutorials during the procedure and operated without their consent.
The boy was admitted to Puri Hospital in Madhaura due to severe abdominal pain and vomiting. During the surgery, the supposed doctor ignored the family’s concerns, asking: “Am I the doctor here or are you?”
Despite his deteriorating condition, he tried to transfer him to a hospital in Patna, but the teenager died on the way.
After the death, Puri fled, leaving the body at the hospital. The family has denounced his negligence and lack of qualifications, and authorities are on the hunt for the suspect.
The tragedy has shocked the local community, where many are wondering how an untrained individual could have agreed to perform such a delicate procedure.
The teenager's family has called for justice and demanded that stricter measures be taken to prevent unqualified persons from practising as doctors.
Health authorities in Bihar have begun an investigation to determine how Puri managed to carry out the operation and whether there was any complicity on the part of others.
As the investigation progresses, it is hoped that the authorities will be able to find Ajit Kumar Puri and face justice for his reckless and deadly negligent actions.
