American couple stole $1 million worth of clothes to show off on social media.

The couple boasted a successful life on social media, taking photographs constructed from stolen items.

Hollywood has probably already reserved the rights to film this story. It has it all: fashion, fame, scandal and even elements of an action-packed thriller.

Jadion Richards, 44, and Akwele Lowes-Richards, 45, from Connecticut, are a social media influencer couple. Their accounts contain posts with avant-garde clothes from Chanel, Balmain, Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana and rare vintage items from Versace.

But while the couple was showing off a successful life on social media, taking pictures of themselves on the red carpet at social events, a criminal case was opened against them. It turns out that their images were constructed from stolen items. The famous stores began to notice a decrease in their items, so they contacted the police and, as a result, the investigation reached Jadion and Akvele.

The couple was caught in the sportswear store Lululemon. Their modus operandi was simple: the couple entered the store, tried on different items, bought the cheapest product and hid the most expensive one under their clothes. At the exit, an alarm went off, one of the couple showed the purchased item with a receipt and the other was not checked, so the thieves left the store unhindered.

After searches at the Richards' home, twelve suitcases with expensive items were found; investigators estimate their value at more than $50,000. But this is only part of the loot: in total, police suggest, the Richards collected clothes worth a million dollars.

The couple is now accused of eight robberies in Colorado and seven robberies in Utah. The Richards couple was released on bail. The influencers explained their arrest by the racial hostility towards them by the police
