In Shchelkovo, a Russian city located northeast of Moscow, a scandal broke out after a hidden camera was discovered that recorded clients while undergoing laser hair removal in the bikini area.
This procedure consists of removing hair from the groin area and a large part of the woman's lower abdomen. The postures adopted by clients can be grotesque, so the office is always closed and the procedures are carried out in a comfortable and discreet environment.
Everything that happened inside the salon was recorded by a hidden camera installed in front of the hair removal table. There is no doubt that no one asked the clients for consent to be recorded.
According to local media, it is unknown how long ago the cameras were installed; but the records found date back to October 2023.
In total, about 50 videos were found, but it is estimated that the number of recordings is higher, since about five clients pass through the salon a day.
The scandalous story was revealed by a Telegram user, who claimed to be an employee of the beauty salon and reported that the camera was hidden in a fire detector.
The beauty salon owner claims he knew nothing about the camera. According to the salon owner, the camera could have been installed by a client.
The owner said that a couple of days ago an extortionist sent him screenshots of these videos and demanded a ransom: one million rubles in bitcoins (about $12,000) so that the images would not be spread over the Internet.
The extortionist's demands were ignored; However, it is not entirely clear why the salon owner did not check the presence of cameras in the salon and contact the police.
The police have launched an investigation under article 137 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, concerning violation of privacy, while the victims themselves also plan to write a statement to the police.
