Teenager kills his mother a year after killing his father in Florida.

Collin is being charged with first-degree murder, kidnapping and violating a no-contact order. The sheriff's office requested that he be tried as an adult.

A 17-year-old boy killed his mother in Florida about a year and a half after being accused of fatally shooting his father in Oklahoma, authorities said.

Collin Griffith is now charged with first-degree murder in the death of his mother, Catherine Griffith, 39, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said.

He is accused of stabbing his mother to death 19 months after Oklahoma deputies said they called 911 and reported he had shot his father in the chest and head in self-defense.

In February 2023, he was arrested in Lincoln County, Oklahoma, on probable cause of first-degree murder, but was ultimately not prosecuted after the district attorney's office said investigators could not rule out self-defense.

Griffith, who was 15 at the time, said his father had chased him around the house with a knife until he cornered him in his bedroom, where he eventually shot his father, deputies said in the affidavit.

After that case was dismissed, he moved to Charlotte County, Florida, to live with his mother, according to Judd.
