Two alleged gang members of Venezuelan nationality stole the car of an off-duty police officer in New York, using violence and weapons.
The incident took place around 11:30 p.m., at the intersection of West 146th Street and Bradhurst Avenue, when the gang members approached the officer, who was inside his personal vehicle, a 2020 BMW.
According to police reports, the two criminals with tattoos associated with criminal groups approached the officer carrying weapons in hand. One of them attacked the officer and snatched his service weapon, while they demanded the keys to the vehicle, subsequently escaping the scene in the stolen car.
The prompt action of the authorities led to the arrest of the suspects and the recovery of two weapons in their possession, one of which was equipped with a 'Glock switch', a device illegally modified to alter the operation of the weapon.
The men now face multiple serious charges, including auto theft, grand theft vehicle, illegal possession of loaded firearms, and illegal weapon modification, among others.
This incident has highlighted concerns about the presence and activities of transnational gangs in the city.
